Rodrigo Valdes
Rodrigo surprises audiences by blending his unique vision and elevated craft to create genre bending and immersive cinematic experiences.
At an early age, Mexican-born, LA-based director Rodrigo Valdes fell in love with filmmaking at his father’s post-production company. Experimenting with color correction, VFX, and green screens, he developed his passion for immersive storytelling and cinematic comedy.
After leaving film school, Rodrigo and his friends pooled their tuition money to shoot short films, music videos and commercials, becoming The Maestros, which has evolved into one of the largest and most prestigious production companies in Latin America.
Rodrigo’s campaigns for VW, Toyota, Honda, Fiat, Coca-Cola, Gatorade, Netflix, The North Face, and many others, exemplify his signature approach to visual effects, editorial transitions, and innovative car work. Winning numerous international awards, including three recent Cannes Film Lions and two gold Ciclopes, Rodrigo uses these cinematic elements to elevate the brand story being told.
Most recently, Rodrigo directed a full-throttle anthem for Dick’s Sporting Goods’ VRST highlighting the beautiful absurdity of modern manhood, complete with slow-motion swagger and lyrical love letters. He is also in post-production on his debut feature film ‘A Billion to One’ which Prime Video has called “its most ambitious action thriller yet.” The thriller is set against the dramatic landscapes of Mexico and features large-scale production values, multiple special effects and a notable cast that includes Paola Núñez, Natalia Solián, Gustavo Sánchez Parra and Luis Alberti.
