Sean Baker

Sean Baker is a director, cinematographer, producer, screenwriter, and editor with an authentic approach to filmmaking, often casting real people in his films, adding a layer of sincerity and depth to his stories. His latest feature, ANORA, won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and top prizes at the DGA, PGA, and WGA awards. Baker made history at the 96th Academy Awards as the first filmmaker to win four Oscars for a single film, taking home Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing for ANORA. The romantic dramedy marks the eighth writing and directing endeavor for Baker and follows his 2021 dark comedy, RED ROCKET, starring Simon Rex, which also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Baker is best known for his independent films TANGERINE and THE FLORIDA PROJECT. TANGERINE, which Sean shot entirely on the iPhone 5s, won the Audience Award at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. For the film, Sean received the Director to Watch Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and a nomination for Best Director at the Independent Spirit Awards. THE FLORIDA PROJECT premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated by the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Feature and The Gotham Independent Film Awards for Best Feature. Willem Dafoe earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and Sean was awarded Best Director of the Year by the New York Film Critics Circle.
